Savvy wine buys: ‘00 Domaine du Salvard Cheverny

Wednesday, July 10, 2002 | 8:19 a.m.

The venerable Berkeley, Calif., wine expert Kermit Lynch selected this wine, and it's a real curiosity. The Loire River Valley is famous for its whites, particularly Sancerre and Savennieres, but this is a lesser known region, and wines from it rarely pop up in the United States, let alone here in Vegas. This one is a lean, mean Sauvignon Blanc that is best cold, and a great, refreshing summer wine. For serious foodies, this is a wonderful complement to oysters, crab or any shellfish, and overall, it rates as a grand surprise at the price.

Available at Lee's Discount Liquors, $9.99.
