Las Vegas students featured at Shakespearean Festival
Wednesday, July 10, 2002 | 8:17 a.m.
Lummis Elementary School students will perform a 50-minute adaptation of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" this summer in Cedar City, Utah.
The school's students will make their first appearance at the Utah Shakespearean Festival at noon on July 23, according to Michael Don Bahr, festival education director. The public is invited to attend the free performance on the stage of the outdoor Adams Shakespearean Theatre.
During the week elementary and middle school students from across Utah and Las Vegas will perform, showcasing a different play each day.
"The theme of the Shakespeare Showcase is 'All the World's My Stage'," Bahr said.
At the showcase the students will have a chance to share their interpretations and visions of scenes from Shakespeare. While at the festival they will take a backstage tour and have the opportunity to meet some of the actors from this year's productions.
For more information regarding the showcase, or if a class or group wishes to participate in the future, contact Bahr at (435) 586-7880. For tickets or information about the Utah Shakespearean Festival running now through Oct. 19, call 1-800-PLAYTIX (752-9849) or visit the website at www.bard.org.
