Grant to help curb Medicare mistakes

Tuesday, July 9, 2002 | 9:45 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $480,000 grant to Nevada to continue for three years the volunteer effort to curb mistakes, fraud and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said Monday the money will be used to recruit and train retired professional senior volunteers to help their peers in understanding the delivery of their health care through the Medicare system.

Del Papa said the program, in existence for three years, has saved millions of dollars in Nevada in unnecessary spending in the two medical care programs.
