Gaming magazine to close

Tuesday, July 9, 2002 | 11:02 a.m.

Trade publisher Casino Journal Publishing Group has reached an agreement with Schulman Media LLC, owners of Card Player magazine, to sell certain assets of Casino Journal's Poker Digest magazine.

The magazine, which released its last issue last week, will be discontinued.

Terms were not disclosed.

Poker Digest wasn't as profitable as other Casino Journal magazines such as Casino Player and Strictly Slots, Las Vegas-based Casino Journal Publishing said.

The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, combined with the general economic downturn, "furthered our belief that the poker market was not big enough to sustain two profitable magazines," Casino Journal Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Fine said.

Casino Journal will concentrate more time and resources on Casino Player, Strictly Slots and its other poker magazine, Classic Poker Cruises, Fine said.
