Armstrong falls to 4th at Tour de France

World road champion Oscar Freire won the second stage of the Tour de France today, and three-time champion Lance Armstrong slipped to fourth place in the overall standings.

Spain's Freire, of the Mapei-Quick Step team, beat local favorite Erik Zabel in a sprint to the finish, completing the 112.2-mile stage in 4 hours, 19 minutes and 51 seconds.

Armstrong finished with the main pack, in 61st place, in the same time as Freire. He slipped from third to fourth in the overall standings.

Switzerland's Rubens Bertogliati, who won the first stage Sunday, retained the yellow jersey as the overall leader.

Survey: Players want testing for steroids

Seventy-nine percent of major league players would agree to independent testing for steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, according to a survey by USA Today.

Forty-four percent of players in the newspaper's survey, published in today's editions, said they felt pressure to take steroids.

Kelly grabs second PGA Tour victory

Jerry Kelly grabbed the lead early and made a birdie anytime someone mounted a challenge, shooting a 7-under 65 to win the Western Open by two strokes. Kelly finished with a 19-under 269, two strokes off the Western Open record.

Ex-NFL QB DeBerg charged with DUI

Former NFL quarterback Steve DeBerg was arrested over the weekend and charged with driving under the influence.

DeBerg, 48, was pulled over early Saturday in Tampa, Fla., after police saw him "driving erratically," according to a police report. DeBerg refused a breath test, and later posted $500 bond Saturday and left the Orient Road Jail.

He was also arrested for DUI in New York in 1996, when he was a coach for the New York Giants.
