Judge to decide wrongful death suit
The District Court judge presiding over the wrongful death lawsuit against a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper has asked the attorneys for both sides to submit their final arguments in written form by July 19.
It is unclear when District Judge Lee Gates will decide if Trooper Daniel Bennett should be held liable for the Dec. 26, 1997, death of Robert "Dale" Dodson, 44.
Dodson was struck and killed by Bennett's marked police car while retrieving a bicycle that had flown off the roof of his Jeep Cherokee.
Bennett maintains he struck Dodson accidentally after swerving to avoid the bike, which was lying in the left travel lane of northbound Interstate 15.
Dodson's wife, Tammy Dodson, alleges Bennett struck the bike and then her husband as the result of recklessness.
Testimony in the trial, which was heard by Gates, ended Friday.

A 58-year-old Las Vegas woman will appear in U.S. District Court this week on charges of bank robbery.

Ogilvie was held by bank employees until police arrived, and an object in a bag she was carrying was determined to be inert, FBI spokesman special agent Daron Borst said.
Ogilvie could face additional charges in connection with two additional robberies at other area banks in which the suspect claimed to have a bomb.
