Camp helps kids spend time with friends

WEEKEND EDITION: July 6, 2002
Some parents seek the Sun Camp Fund's assistance because they want their children to interact with others their own age.
For different reasons, their children have no friends where they live. The parents say a camping experience is one way to meet other children and make friendships.
The mother of one such boy says he needs to be around other children "who will accept him the way he is."
The single mother of an 8-year-old boy who has cerebral palsy is seeking a camp placement for him. He has no speech and uses American Sign Language.
The mother describes him as a social and loving child who likes to be around other children. "He is outgoing and loves to be involved with everything. He does not let his disability hold him back," she says.
His mother is seeking the Sun Camp Fund's help to get him to camp.
By joining contributors to the Las Vegas Sun Camp Fund you are making a difference in a child's life.
