Letter: God will always be worth noting
Wednesday, July 3, 2002 | 9:03 a.m.
How soon we forget that it has been less than nine months since the attack on our country at the twin towers in New York. People were going to churches of their choice, no one was concerned whether our national "Pledge of Allegiance" had "one nation under God" or not, or if our national currency has "In God We Trust" on it.
D. Kelley's June 26 letter asked if the masses in the United States, in essence, have lost their morality and are only interested in the good old American dollar. Tragically I have to agree with Kelley's pronouncement that most of the people of America have done just that.
After living for 76 years and comparing Americans 70 years ago and Americans today, I can only say to those so-called Americans who say that God has no place being mentioned or displayed in government, God help them when and if any group that doesn't believe in God takes over.
To believe in God and mentioning God, or displaying His name on our currency, has nothing to do with separation of church and state. Nor will you find our government pushing churches such as the Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Mormon, Hindu, Buddhist, nor any other religion.
