Letter: Corporate greed, insider trading run rampant
Tuesday, July 2, 2002 | 9:01 a.m.
It appears that when this appointed administration took office, due to a tainted, more than questionable "election," several more unsavory acts ensued.
There was a definite "follow the leader," "they got away with it, why can't we?" state of mind.
This sad fact becomes more apparent every day. We are all familiar with the often ridiculed Republican habit of searching for communists under every bed, and their "conservative" yen to return to the bad old days.
But this is far more serious than even these well-known flaws. Never in the history of this country that we love have we seen such corporate greed and insider trading scandals as we have in the past 18 months. The once-trusted companies are now viewed with dismay and revulsion. Even the pristine, formerly respected Martha Stewart is now being questioned about possible insider trading.
Unfortunately those who are suffering are the ones who can least afford this, the "little guys" -- the non-millionaire working, retired and disabled Americans who are losing their jobs and seeing their life savings disappear.
And CNN reports that in the past 18 months our budget deficit has doubled! A grim reminder of Ronald Reagan's quadrupling of our national debt.
So the next time you express your outrage to a Republican and are told, "Get over it and move on, the election's over!" you may want to remind him of these disasters.
