Nonresidents’ casino winnings to be taxed

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut's $13.2 billion tax and spending plan approved Sunday by the Legislature includes a measure taxing the casino gambling winnings of nonresidents.
The measure is retroactive to Jan. 1.
Separately, the cities of Ledyard, Montville, North Stonington, Norwich and Preston each won $500,000, up from $250,000, for "casino impact aid."
The money, taken from a fund established with slot machine revenue from the state's two Indian-operated casinos in eastern Connecticut, is intended to help the towns cope with increased demand for ambulance, police, fire and other services.
The increased aid is a "major victory," said Sen. Catherine Cook, R-Mystic.
