Rebels’ Brandon Bair to play in Hula Bowl

Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 | 10:35 a.m.

UNLV offensive lineman Brandon Bair, who prepped at Basic High School, has been selected to play in Saturday's Hula Bowl college all-star game in Maui, Hawaii.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound tackle will suit up for the South team which will be coached by Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops and new Washington Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier. The game will be broadcast live by ESPN beginning at 5 p.m.

Bair started 32 games in his collegiate career, including 24 straight at left tackle. He earned second team all-Mountain West Conference honors as a senior when he compiled 49 knockdown blocks and graded out at 89 percent in his blocking.

Bair is the seventh player in UNLV history to participate in the Hula Bowl and the first since defensive end Talance Sawyer, now a starter with the Minnesota Vikings, was picked after the 1998 season.
