LV health care company reports gains

Las Vegas-based health care company Sierra Health Services Inc. reported a 36 percent increase in operating income for the fourth quarter compared to the same period in 2000, from $3.8 million, or 14 cents per share, to $5.7 million, or 19 cents per share.

Revenue from continuing operations for the fourth quarter were $339 million, an increase of nearly 13 percent over the $300 million reported in the same period last year.

According to Zaks and First Call, analysts had expected the company to post an average fourth quarter earnings per share of 14 cents.
