Las Vegas area fishing report: Action slows at Lake Mead

Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 | 10:38 a.m.

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDIFE

Other than a few striped bass that have come out of the Boulder Basin during the past week, there has been very little recent fishing success at Lake Mead.

A pair of anglers reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife that they caught a handful of stripers during the past week by casting yellow Bomber Long A lures at Hemenway Harbor. The fish have ranged from three to five pounds.

Small stripers were caught over the weekend by boaters who were fishing with anchovies near the tires at Las Vegas Bay Marina. There have been some reports of stripers being caught with bait at Sand Island.

Largemouth bass fishing is poor throughout the lake as the fish are holding in deep water. A number of anglers have been searching for black crappie in the Overton Arm, but there has only been limited success for the fish.

Rainbow trout have been staying at Hemenway Harbor for one or two days after NDOW's plants. This week's plants will take place on Friday.

Creel census clerks who were working at Cottonwood Cove over the weekend checked just one striped bass.
