Savvy wine buys: Vega Sindoa ‘00 Tempranillo/Merlot
Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 | 8:20 a.m.
Once again a red wine from Spain that is good enough to sweep both casual and serious wine drinkers right off their feet comes to town at a blowout price. This is a dark, ruby-red, tank-fermented wine, shot though with ripe flavors such as black cherry and wild berries. It is ripe but not overly tannic, and not aggressively acidic. The Navarra region lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, close to the city of Pamplona, and not far from France. Vega Sindoa refers to the verdant valley where these grapes are grown. Be on the lookout for more terrific value reds from this same region.
Available at Las Vegas Wine Company, $5.49.
