CARSON CITY -- Secretary of State Dean Heller announced Friday he is joining Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., in supporting a bipartisan election-reform bill before the Senate.
The bill provides $3 billion to the states for updating voting procedures and equipment, an additional $400 million in incentive grants to make improvements and $100 million for making polling places accessible to the disabled.
Heller, the chief election officer for the state, said he was impressed with the bipartisan support the legislation received and praised its focus on civil rights and accessibility issues.
"Moreover, the bill comes with an impressive financial commitment from the federal government -- thereby allowing Nevada counties to update antiquated equipment with the latest technology without bearing the enormous cost of undertaking such a project on their own," Heller said.
