Letter: When will Bush tell the truth?
Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 | 9:18 a.m.
Before the cock could crow once, President Bush was denying that he knew "Mr. Lay" well. He stated that he first met Lay at one of his mother's functions in 1994 -- when, in fact, their association went back to at least 1992. Junior also assured us that Lay was a supporter of Ann Richards in the race for Texas governor. Lay, himself, has declared he supported Junior over Ann Richards.
So why the half-truths? Bush was quick to offer reporters this: his very own mother-in-law lost $8,000 in Enron stock! But his anger was due to, "she didn't know what was going on at Enron." Which, of course, translates to: This proves I didn't know, either.
If conspiracy and collusion play into the Enron debacle, and if all the facts are made public, we'll soon know how much this administration is, or is not, involved. That is, if there are no other diversions on the way.
In November we vote -- I hope both parties in both houses do their job. Or make way for Enrongate!
