County schedules power hearing
Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 | 9:13 a.m.
The Clark County Commission will hold its own public hearing Tuesday to accept input on the proposed Nevada Power Co. rate increases.
The hearing, beginning at 4 p.m., will be held in the County Commission chambers at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. It will also be aired live on Cox cable Channel 4, the county government's access channel.
Panelists at the hearing will include state Consumer Advocate Timothy Hay, former Public Utilities Commission Chairman Scott Craigie, former Assemblyman Larry Spitler, now associate director of the American Association of Retired Persons, and Culinary Local 226 staff director D. Taylor.
Nevada Power is seeking $921 million for energy already used by Southern Nevadans plus an additional $22.9 million for administrative costs. If approved by the PUC, the utility has said consumers' bills could increase by as much as 25 percent beginning as early as April 1.
For more information on the hearing, call Jim Spinello, the county's assistant director of administrative services, at 455-3530.
