Soldier cited for meritorious service

Army Sgt. 1st Class Mark W. Grumbach, Rancho High School class of 1981, has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal, awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who distinguish themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service in noncombat situations.

Grumbach received the medal while assigned to Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment at Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii.

He is the son of Karl Grumbach Sr. of Las Vegas and Patricia Grumbach of North Las Vegas.

The sergeant is 1999 graduate of Adam Smith University, Honolulu.

The soldier, son of Charlana Cain of Las Vegas, was trained to receive, inspect, store, inventory, and issue supplies and equipment using computer automated accountability systems.

Ramos, Turkovich and Ray received training in drill and ceremonies, map reading, tactics, military justice, fitness, first aid, and Army traditions. They also developed combat skills and battlefield operations and fired various infantry weapons.

During training, Ray and Damby received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military justice, fitness, first aid and Army traditions.

He also earned credits toward an associate's degree through the Community College of the Air Force.com
