The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada today approved a natural gas rate decrease of $43.1 million a year for Southern Nevada customers of Southwest Gas Corp., effective Feb. 1.
The decrease combines requests from Dec. 26 and Tuesday and will lower the typical residential customer's winter monthly bill using 79 therms of gas by more than 18 percent from $67.79 to $55.34.
A therm is 100 cubic feet of natural gas.
The decrease follows a Dec. 1 decrease of $48.6 million. In the past two months, gas rates have dropped more than $91.7 million.
