Another rate cut planned

Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002 | 9:31 a.m.

Southwest Gas Corp. of Las Vegas is asking the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada to reduce rates by another $13.9 million -- or 6 percent.

Tuesday's request reflects lower wholesale prices and follows a $29.2 million decrease request that is pending before regulators. Southwest wants the latest increase to take effect March 1.

As a result of Tuesday's request, combined with the pending decrease, Southwest expects residential rates for customers using 79 therms a month in the winter to drop from $59.13 to $55.34 per month.
