Ex-labor secretary joins board of MGM MIRAGE

Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 | 10:51 a.m.

Alexis Herman, U.S. secretary of labor during the Clinton administration, has been named to MGM MIRAGE's board of directors, the Las Vegas casino operator announced today.

Herman served as the federal government's top labor official from May 1997 until the end of Clinton's administration in January 2001. She was the first black person to serve as labor secretary.

Previously, Herman had served as assistant to the president and director of the White House Public Liaison Office, and was chief executive of the 1992 Democratic National Convention Committee.

"She is a national figure who brings to our board vast experience in labor, diversity and business," MGM MIRAGE spokesman Alan Feldman said.

Herman will be the first woman on MGM MIRAGE's board and the second black director, joining Los Angeles businessman Willie Davis, the president of radio broadcasting chain All-Pro Broadcasting Inc.

Herman will not replace any current director. Her election gives MGM MIRAGE 21 directors.
