The name of the game is education
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes and walks free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs, which begin at the Visitors Center. To make reservations or for information call 363-1922. Some upcoming programs:
Play Jeopardy: Learn facts about desert safety, Nevada state symbols, and desert animals noon-3 p.m. Saturday.
La Madre: A three-mile moderate hike Wednesday. Learn about the secluded riparian habitat at the end of the trail.
Ash Creek: Discover how water has transformed this piece of desert into a mini-oasis on this two-mile moderate hike Thursday.
UNLV institute to hold convocation
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Institute for Learning in Retirement will hold its spring semester convocation 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Moyer Student Union Ballroom.
Retired and semi-retired individuals are invited to attend. For more information, call Lori Slinn at 895-4469.
Liquid supplements sought in drive
The American Cancer Society will hold a liquid supplement drive through the end of February to meet the growing need of cancer patients in the community.
Currently, the American Cancer Society's stock room is very low on liquid supplements.
Any individual or company that donates a case of liquid supplements such as Ensure or Boost from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1325 E. Harmon Ave. will receive a complimentary book written by the American Cancer Society about nutrition and cancer prevention.
A seminar on retirement,
risk management, and college funding will be hosted by Michael Keeler of GFS & Associates 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Community School, 340 Villa Monterey. Admission is free. To register, call 229-6175.
Information nights
are being held Wednesday, Jan. 29 and Feb. 4 for the Clark County School District's magnet high schools. Meetings will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road; at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Desert Pines High School Theater; and 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at Summerlin Library.
