Website operators sued over ‘Fiesta’ name
Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 | 9:46 a.m.
Station Casinos Inc. of Las Vegas, which said it owns the Fiesta domain name as owner of two Fiesta casinos in the Las Vegas area, filed trademark infringement lawsuits against several Internet website operators.
Station sued San Diego-based International Thunderbird Gaming Corp., its subsidiary International Thunderbird Brazil Ltd. of Tortola, British Virgin Islands and its president Jack Mitchell, alleging they refused to transfer the domain name fiestacasinos.com to Station and asserted rights to the Fiesta trademark even though their trademark application was allegedly rejected.
But International Thunderbird Gaming's attorney, Albert Attallah, disputed the allegations. "We are fully entitled to the fiestacasinos.com domain name. We will look into filing a cross complaint against Station for malicious prosecution and abuse of process."
Station also sued Alpharetta, Ga.-based Dotsplash.com and its owner Lalit Wadhwa, alleging they linked their domain name fiestacasinohotel.com to their "sqrl.com" website, which provides links to other websites.
That defendant could not be reached for comment.
