EL PASO, Texas AP) - Eugene Costello and Roy Smallwood combined for 54 points to lead Texas-El Paso to a 93-64 victory over Nevada Thursday night.
Costello, who led UTEP (7-11 overall, 2-5 WAC) with 28 points, hit all four of his 3-pointer and was 6-of-8 from the field. He hit 12-of-15 from the free-throw line.
Smallwood finished with 26 points. He had eight rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Chris Neal and Justino Victoriano added 10 points apiece for the Miners. Victoriano also led the Miners with nine rebounds.
Nevada (10-6, 3 (3)- was led by Garry Hill-Thomas, who scored all of his 15 points in the second half.
Kirk Snyder scored 14 points for the Wolfpack and Sean Paul added 10. Corey Jackson and Paul tied for team-high rebound honors with nine each.
UTEP shot 52 percent from the field while Nevada shot 36 percent.
The Miners started to take control of the game midway through the first half. Down by a point, 22-21, with 8:12 remaining in the opening half, UTEP went on a 20-3 run to take a 41-25 lead with 1:25 left on the way to a 43-30 halftime lead.
