LV-Colorado Springs flights planned

Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 | 10:52 a.m.

A small Fresno, Calif.,-based airline will begin nonstop flights between Las Vegas and Colorado Springs, Colo., beginning Feb. 14.

Allegiant Air, which currently has nonstop round-trip flights between Fresno and McCarran International Airport six days a week, will be the only carrier serving the Colorado Springs market with direct Las Vegas flights.

Departures to Colorado Springs Airport are scheduled every day except Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with the return flight leaving Colorado Springs at 5:45 p.m. Fares on that route will range from $218 round trip to $349 for a first-class seat.

Allegiant will use twin-engine 83-passenger DC-9 jets on the route.

Privately held Allegiant is under majority control of Las Vegas resident Maurice Gallagher, who acquired his controlling interest in the company in the past year. Gallagher, a member of the board of directors of MPower Communications, was one of the founders of ValuJet Airlines in 1993.
