Culinary, Turnberry apparently settle fight over picketing space

The Clark County Commission approved a new design Wednesday for a proposed London-themed megaresort at the site of the old El Rancho hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Florida condominium developer Turnberry Associates had wrangled with the Culinary Union over the design. The union appealed the design in November, forcing the issue to the full commission after an earlier approval by the county planning commission.
But culinary officials did not speak against the resort project at the county zoning meeting, and Turnberry attorney Jeffrey Silver said the issue with the union had been resolved.
Culinary officials said at the planning commission in October that they needed enough room to picket if the union and resort owner sparred. Modifications in the design plan submitted Wednesday appear to give would-be picketers room to carry signs.
The resort would include more than 2,000 rooms, a 90,000-square-foot casino and thrill rides.
Turnberry Associates hasn't announced dates for construction or opening of the resort.
