Montandon’s State of City to focus on bright future

While his counterparts in Las Vegas and Henderson made plugs for a medical center and more state money, North Las Vegas Mayor Michael Montandon plans to use his state of the city address Thursday to talk about a bright future that lies ahead.
The mayor and City Council was expected to approve a master-planned community on 1,900 acres at the northern end of town today. City officials hope the development, which will include about 7,500 homes, will bring upscale neighborhoods to North Las Vegas and boost the city's economy.
Montandon will deliver his address during a luncheon at Texas Station in North Las Vegas. He plans to talk about how the city's growth "has set the stage for a prosperous future and why North Las Vegas and its quality of life continue to increasingly attract more developers and residents alike," according to a city press release.
Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt will deliver a keynote speech on the state's technology strategy. Willie Fields, the president of the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, is expected to make some remarks on the city's business outlook.
Tickets at $25 per person or $250 per table can be bought at the door. For more information, call 633-1005.
