A project to convert the Lady Luck hotel-casino's west hotel tower into a timeshare complex has been approved by the Las Vegas Planning Commission.
The application will now be considered by the City Council Feb. 20. Assuming the council grants its approval, Lady Luck owner Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. could proceed with the project. The Biloxi, Miss., company would have one year to begin the conversion at the downtown hotel-casino.
"Within a year, we'd hope to be in there and doing the first floor, then work continuously to the next floor," Greg Borgel, the company's planning consultant, said. "(The time frame) depends on how fast they sell. It's likely to be four to five years (to complete)."
Only the west tower will be converted in the project; the main tower will remain a hotel. The Lady Luck currently has 792 hotel rooms -- it hasn't been determined how many will be converted to timeshares.
