Former UNLV coach Bill Bayno resigned from the American Basketball Association's Phoenix Eclipse last week to become a coach in the Philippines professional league.
Bayno quit Thursday after leading the Eclipse to a 3-1 start, saying the Philippines job would triple his ABA salary. He said he heard good reports about the quality of the league, where he will coach three three-month seasons.
"(Former players) said it's a first-class operation -- very competitive," Bayno told the Arizona Republic. "It's about the level of a low (NCAA) Division I to mid-Division I team.
"I told the players all along if they had an opportunity for big money, I would understand -- and this came along (for me)."
