Letter: Blame customer who takes cart
Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 | 9:48 a.m.
I cannot believe that stores will be fined or made to bear the cost of a barrier to keep shopping carts from being removed from the premises. Shouldn't the customer who takes the cart home be fined?
I was in a city that had a barrier on the outside of the store. You had to leave your cart unattended while you got your car and drive it to the front of the store in order to get your groceries.
People in this town have no idea how good they have it. Let's get real people! Stop putting the responsibility and cost on others.
The shopping carts are quite expensive, and when they are not recovered, the cost is naturally reflected in the rise of prices. We are constantly complaining about rising costs, but when you leave a container of ice cream or a pack of meat in the dog food aisle to spoil, take a cart home, or get a doggy bag at the buffet, who do you think absorbs the cost?
Let's start taking responsibility for our own actions.
