Classes offered for family, friends
The Nevada Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill offers a series of free classes for families and friends whose loved one is living with a mental illness.
The Family-to-Family course provides families of the mentally ill the tools required to learn about mental illness. Students of the program study a curriculum that is focused on schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, clinical depression, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Topics include learning about feelings, statistics and prevalence, problem solving, medication review, what it is like to have a brain disorder, communication skills, self-care, and rehabilitation.

Blood drives
These locations will host blood drives next week for United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd.:
Monday: 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Desert Pines High School, 1251 Robins St.; 2-7 p.m., Kim Elementary School, 7600 Peace Way.
Tuesday: 2:30-7:30 p.m., Horizon Sunset East High School, 3801 E. Washington Ave.; 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Cox Communications, 121 S. Martin L. King Blvd.
Wednesday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Suncoast hotel.
Thursday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Suncoast hotel.
Friday: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Suncoast hotel.
Saturday: 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Rotary Club of Pahrump Valley at Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 N. Highway 160, Pahrump.

Immunizations
Health District immunization clinics areopen each week in Southern Nevada. Most immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 19 in any of four public health centers and 12 immunization clinics. These clinics will be open next week:
DISTRICT HEALTH CENTER: 625 Shadow Lane, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
EAST LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
NORTH LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 1820 E. Lake Mead Blvd., Suite F, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
CAMBRIDGE COMMUNITY OUTREACH CENTER CLINIC: 3900 Cambridge St., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3:30 p.m., Tuesday.
RAINBOW LIBRARY: 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday.
EOB NORTH LAS VEGAS WIC: 5A E. Tonopah Ave., 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday.
CHEYENNE WIC CLINIC: Center for Healthy Families, 3266 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Suite No. 12, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m., Friday.
GREEN VALLEY CLINIC: Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3:30 p.m., Friday.
FREMONT MEDICAL CLINIC: 4880 Wynn Road, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday. Most immunizations free to anyone who walks in.
