Wide-area progressive slot system planned

Mikohn Gaming Corp. of Las Vegas announced today it is developing a wide-area progressive slot system for release to North American casinos later this year.

Mikohn has yet to identify an exact date for its release, or the games it plans to put on the progressive system, saying both will be announced later. The company said it has hired Charles Lombardo, former vice president of slot operations at Caesars Palace, to assist in the system's development.

"We see the wide-area progressive system as a natural integration of our systems business with our expanding array of highly popular branded slot games," Mikohn Chairman and Chief Executive David Thompson said.

A wide-area progressive system links together slot machines located at different casinos into a single huge progressive jackpot. The most well-known example of such a system is International Game Technology's "Megabucks."
