Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002 | 10:10 a.m.
Male Athlete of the week: CHRIS FULLER
School: Centennial
Class: Junior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: Fuller, a 6-foot-3 forward, averaged 20 points in three games to help the Bulldogs to a second-place finish at Moapa Valley's Reid-Gardner Tournament. Fuller scored 19 points in a win over Virgin Valley Thursday, 18 in a victory over Pahrump Valley Friday and 23 in a 58-42 loss to the host Pirates in Saturday's title game. "He's been very consistent for us all year," Centennial coach Greg Bohls said. "He's an inside-outside scorer, a good penetrator who can hit the pull-up jumper. He's been a solid player for us, and he's such a great kid."
Female Athlete of the week: BREONA GRAY
School: Bishop Gorman
Class: Junior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: Gray, a 5-foot-8 guard, scored in double figures in four games against Florida competition as the Gaels went 3-1 and captured the consolation championship at the Naples Shootout in Naples, Fla. Gray tallied 10 points in an opening loss to Northwest Christian, 12 in a win over host Naples, 15 in a victory over Pensacola and 12 in a 53-48 triumph over Winter Haven in the consolation finals. "Breona has really done an excellent job of getting her teammates involved in the offense," Gorman coach Sheryl Krmpotich said. "She's a pure shooter, but we also have four other kids who can shoot. She has really accepted her leadership role this year."
