Police suspect deaths were murder-suicide

Tape recordings and writing found at a southeastern Las Vegas home indicate that a man killed the woman he was living with, then committed suicide Wednesday morning, Metro Police said.

About 8 a.m. police dispatchers received a call from a man saying he was going to kill himself, homicide unit Lt. Tom Monahan said.

"The subject hung up the phone before the dispatcher had a chance to start a conversation with him," Monahan said.

Police responded to the couple's home in the 3500 block of Legendary Drive, near Flamingo and Pecos roads, and found not only a dead man, but also a dead woman.

"The man had an obvious self-inflicted gunshot wound, but there were no obvious signs as to how the woman died," Monahan said. "We are treating her death as a homicide because of the written and tape recorded statements."

The statements indicate that the man was planning to kill the woman, whom he had been living with for several years, police said.

The names of the man and woman were not released this morning.
