Henderson State of the City scheduled
Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002 | 8:38 a.m.
Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson, in his third State of the City address Monday, will explain how the events of Sept. 11 affected the city's budget.
The luncheon, sponsored by the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Casablanca Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency at Lake Las Vegas.
Tickets are $30 and reservations, which are required, can be made by calling 566-2700.
Gibson also is expected to speak on the continued importance of community involvement in local government, city spokeswoman Vicki Taylor said.
During last year's address, delivered in February as legislators were debating new voting districts based on the 2000 Census, Gibson said Henderson should have more influence in county and state government due to its explosive growth over the past 10 years.
By June, Gibson and Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, D-Henderson, had successfully lobbied lawmakers for an additional $4.3 million in annual state sales tax revenues, an increase of about 10 percent.
City Manager Phil Speight will also give a prepared speech at Monday's event.
