Letter: Only rich can save economy
Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 | 8:40 a.m.
As I watched Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle outline his views of the economy and the solution to stimulate it on Fox News' show, "Hannity and Colmes," I couldn't help but wonder why the senator from South Dakota was interviewed only by Alan Colmes -- the talk show host who represents the viewpoint from the left side of the political spectrum -- with no cross-examination rebuttal from the show's guest representative of the right, Oliver North.
Why, but of course!
Heaven forbid Daschle should have to explain his version of how and where jobs for American people are created and how redistribution of the wealth to the nonworking, nonproductive sector of America will create the incentive to invest and ultimately create the needed jobs to reverse the long-term effects of eight years of tax overpayments to the government -- compliments of the Clinton/Gore tax hikes.
Let's cut to the chase. Jobs are not created by the government, the poor, the lazy, the nonproductive or environmentalist. Nor are those Americans, fortunate enough to still be working, employed by those above. The upper 10 percent of income earners, who Daschle and his ilk cite would benefit from the Bush/Republican stimulus plan, are the ones who contributed to the economic boom of the 1990s, and stand poised to inject the needed capital to get us going again based on the future outlook.
