Russell Road recreation complex is scheduled to open Saturday

A 25-acre recreation complex on Russell Road in Henderson opens at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The $4.9 million facility at 5801 E. Russell Road has five soccer fields, two softball fields, a baseball field, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and covered picnic tables.

The city funded the park through a voter-approved, tax-neutral bond initiative for parks and recreation in 1997.

The dedication ceremony will be followed by family-oriented activities, including use of inflatable bounce machines and a pitching machine. There will also be music and a barbecue.
