Local gas price falls to $1.099

Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 | 9:49 a.m.

The price of gasoline continued its decline for the 16th consecutive week in Southern Nevada to an average of $1.099 per gallon, but may have bottomed out.

The Weekend Gas Watch compiled by the Automobile Club of Southern California found the average price of self-serve regular gasoline in Southern Nevada this week was 1 cent less than the previous week. The record price of $1.88 per gallon was set on March 27, 2000.

Auto Club spokesman Jeff Spring said that for the past four months, pump prices have tumbled to meet declining demand.

"We may have reached that point because prices in most of the region have leveled out and, in some instances, have begun to rise," he said.
