Family programs highlight schedule
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes and walks free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs, which begin at the Visitor's Center. To make reservations or for information call 363-1922. Some upcoming programs:
Coyote Kids: A program inviting kids of all ages to the friends room 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays all month at the Visitors Center for fun interactive learning and crafts related to Red Rock.
Tracking Wildlife: A family program to teach children about the variety of wildlife found at Red Rock will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
Night Wings:" A program on birds and bats that own the night will be held Tuesday and Jan. 29. Meet at the fee booth at 5:30 p.m.
Explore Pine Creek: A family hike along one of Red Rock's most scenic trails will be held Monday. The 3-mile hike is an easy one.
Kickoff breakfast planned Jan. 10
Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April is holding an annual kickoff breakfast for its 2002 event 8:30 a.m. Jan. 10 at Nevada Power, 6226 W. Sahara Ave.
The breakfast is a call for previous and new sponsors and participants for the April 27 event, when an effort is made to provide very low-income seniors and disabled homeowners with home repairs. Special projects are available for selection by sponsors.
The Southern Nevada group has rehabilitated more than 200 homes and 10 nonprofit facilities since its inception in 1993.

Free class offers tips on budgeting
The Consumer Credit Counseling Service is offering a free class, "Making Ends Meet and Dreams Come True," 6 p.m. Jan. 10 at the group's offices, 3650 S. Decatur Blvd., Suite 32.
The class will teach methods to organize spending, reduce debt and build a brighter financial future.
The service also is offering a class on "Fresh Start Checking" 11 a.m. Monday, as well as 2 p.m. Jan. 15 and 6 p.m. Jan. 30. A Spanish version is offered 6 p.m. Jan. 22.
The checking class offers residents who have been denied banking provileges an opportunity to re-establish and maintain a good banking relationship. Fee for that class is $10 and pre-registration is required two days in advance.
