Transportation to Red Rock offered

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 | 8:56 a.m.

About 2,000 Clark County School District students will be able to visit the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area this spring and summer because of 32 transportation scholarships recently awarded by Friends of Red Rock Canyon.

The organization will provide round-trip transportation to Red Rock for students from 20 area schools, including 12 at-risk schools with children from disadvantaged areas.

The trips will be available to teachers who have completed a daylong "Explore the Great Outdoors" class, which will provide information about plants, animals, geology, a cultural history of Red Rock Canyon and a one-mile hike of the canyon. The cost is $30.

Teachers who want to apply for transportation scholarships from the 18-year-old organization should call Red Rock Visitors Center at 363-1922.

The organization assists the Bureau of Land Management by supervising canyon volunteer activities and generating financial support for the conservation area.
