Letter: Immigrants must learn English
Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 | 8:48 a.m.
Regarding the city of Las Vegas' website struggles with Spanish:
I for one am really getting tired of this topic. Yes, the Spanish-speaking people do have just as much right to be here in America as anyone else. That is if they're here legally.
The thing to remember is that they're here in America; we are an English speaking country. Immigrants have to learn to adapt to our ways of life, not vice versa.
I feel that all levels of government have made a big mistake by trying to make everything bilingual. This eliminates the need for them to learn to read and speak English.
If any Spanish-speaking people or any other immigrants take this as an insult, they can use one of the many freedoms we enjoy here in this great country, the freedom to leave.
