Las Vegas-based Mikohn Gaming Corp., which has succeeded in previous efforts to transform themes of popular family board games to slot machines, will introduce a Trivial Pursuit game later this year.
The company announced today that it has secured the rights to the game under an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with Hasbro Inc., Pawtucket, R.I. Terms were not disclosed.
The Trivial Pursuit game, the third in Mikohn's Think Big! slot series that debuted with Ripley's Believe It or Not! Adventures in Trivia game, will be submitted for regulatory approval within weeks and is expected to be released in the second half of 2002.
The second game in the series, Clue, based on the murder mystery board game, will be placed in casinos in the second quarter.
Other Mikohn collaborations with Hasbro include the Yahtzee and Battleship slot series and the Monopoly Poker Edition and Monopoly Blackjack Edition table games.
Trivial Pursuit, which is played in 17 languages in 26 countries, tests players' knowledge in science, geography, history, politics, sports and entertainment. The game, which sold 20 million units when it debuted in 1984, has spawned several specialized game versions.
