The beat goes on at Henderson rec center
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will present Drum Fest, two free cultural arts events that explore and celebrate rhythm and percussion 7-10 p.m. Friday.
The program will feature a performance by Soundstream, a world beat/fusion ensemble, and workshops, discussions, demonstrations and a jam session 1- a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Call 565-2367.
"Read Across America,"
featuring a festive reading of "The Cat in the Hat," will be followed by performances from "Seussical the Musical," a Broadway show, at 6 p.m. Monday at Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
The Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada
is now accepting nominations for the "Helping is Healing" honor, to recognize people and organizations that helped the community to overcome hardships caused by the attack on Sept. 11. Call 892-2322.
