Boy, 12, escapes kidnap suspect
Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 | 9:42 a.m.
Metro Police have arrested a 50-year-old Las Vegas man in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 12-year-old boy Sunday afternoon.
Willie David Sampson was arrested Sunday night after the boy escaped his home, Metro Lt. Jeff Carlson said.
"The suspect left his home to run errands or get some food, and the victim was left tied up in the home," Carlson said. "While the suspect was gone the victim was able to free himself and get away."
Carlson said the victim ran home and told his mother, who called police.
Police alleged Sampson lured the boy into a blue Ford sedan about 12:30 p.m. as the boy waited at a bus stop near D Street and Owens Avenue, police said.
Sampson returned to his house a few blocks away on Wyatt Avenue and, using a gun to intimidate the boy, assaulted him, police said.
Sampson, who was arrested in front of his home Sunday night, is being held without bail at the Clark County jail.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at (702) 229-4040 or Secret Witness at (702) 385-5555.
