Anderson, Walters are Nevada ambassadors

Las Vegas youngsters Ryan Anderson and Kristin Walters have been selected Muscular Dystrophy Association's Nevada goodwill ambassadors.

Ryan, 9, a third grader at Mountain View Lutheran School, will serve as state ambassador this year. He is the eldest of two children of Jon and Kerry Anderson. Ryan was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at age 5.

Walters, 7, a second grader at Fay Galloway Elementary School, will serve as Southern Nevada ambassador. She is the youngest of three children of Michelle and Steve Garrott. Kristin was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at age 18 months.

Formerly called poster children, MDA goodwill ambassadors make public appearances to encourage community events and support educational and fund-raising campaigns.

MDA's research and care programs address 43 neuromuscular diseases.
