Actors Rep pays homage to Rodgers and Hart

Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 | 9:44 a.m.

For more than 20 years songwriters Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart created richly romantic and sometimes cynical songs about life and love.

Following their first hit, "Any Old Place With You," which was published in 1919, they went on to write music and lyrics for 30 musicals and nine films.

Critics today still consider the duo to be one of the most successful songwriting teams ever.

To celebrate their unique style and cleverly simple prose, the Actors Repertory Theatre will present the musical revue "Beguiled Again," through Sunday at Summerlin Library Theatre.

The ensemble cast of 22 players will sing, dance and tap their way through 44 Rodgers and Hart songs, which include such familiar numbers as "Blue Moon," "The Lady is a Tramp," "This Can't be Love," "Ten Cents a Dance" and "Falling in Love With Love."

"It's a fun production," Gary Columbo, director of "Beguiled Again," said.

Rodgers and Hart provided commentary on life in a humorous yet realistic way, he said. "Lorenz Hart was a phenomenal lyricist, one of the most clever that ever lived."

"Beguiled Again" features Las Vegas performers Anita Garland, Shannon Bradford-Cangey and Lizabeth Knight

Actors Repertory Theatre's previous productions include "Angels in America," "Man of La Mancha," "Jeffrey" and "My Fair Lady."
