Savvy wine buys: Cotes du Rhone ‘99 Domaine Andre Brunel

This is a relatively low-priced wine with a rather large pedigree, since it is produced by the man, Andre Brunel, who owns one of the most prestigious wine estates in France's Rhone Valley, called Les Cailloux. Cotes du Rhone, generic wines from the lush hillsides that overlook the picturesque Rhone River, can vary. This one, a blend of 85 percent Grenache and 15 percent Syrah, is fruity and rich, an unfiltered wine that goes wonderfully well with a variety of strongly flavored foods or cheese. And at this price, it would be hard to find a better value French wine.

Available at Marche Bacchus, $9.99, and Las Vegas Wine Company, $10.99.
