Columnist Peter Benton: Nation’s best will visit for tourney

The 2002 Callaway Golf Las Vegas Intercollegiate Tournament is scheduled for Friday, March 8, through Sunday, March 10, at the Southern Highlands Golf Club.
Defending NCAA champion Florida will be here, along with Air Force, Alabama, Arizona State, Arizona, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech., Houston, Kent State, New Mexico, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas Christian, and the host UNLV Rebels.
The tournament will also feature current U.S. Amateur Champion and Western Amateur champ Bubba Dickerson, 15 All-Americans and two Public Links champions, D.J. Trahan (2000), and Chez Reavia (2001).
The tournament is free to the public.
Tying for third at 38 were Kim Dolan (Craig Ranch) and Steve Lind (Canyon Gate), while at 3-over 39 were Wes Weston (Shadow Creek), Brad Church (Cascata) and Jason Edmiston (TPC Summerlin).
Bob Ault of Mesquite prevailed in the Senior Division with a 39.
Craig Ranch's Dana Love and Dolan won the best-ball segment of play with a 2-under 34. Dan Hammell (TPC Canyons) and Kaiser placed second at 35.
Boulder City's Debbie Roberts, Hyon Sun Rambo, Marla Effertz, Charlene Voerding, Lynn Hass, Elanor Tolman, Bonnie Godtel and Pam Ballak are atop the Red standings with a point total of 18.5.
