Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 | 9:26 a.m.

Authors John Irving and Tom Robbins are scheduled to be keynote speakers at the Vegas Valley Book Festival in November, sponsored by the Nevada Humanities Committee, the Henderson Library District and the city of Henderson.

The festival will feature an outdoor fair with more than 50 booksellers, Kris Darnall, Southern Nevada program coordinator for the humanities committee, said.

"The Vegas Valley Book Festival will help raise the profile of local literary organizations and expand the audience for humanities programming of all kinds," Darnall said.

The festival is scheduled for Nov. 1 and 2 and will be held at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the Paso Verde Library complex in Henderson and the Henderson Promenade civic plaza, where the outdoor fair will be held.

Irving has written such novels as "The World According to Garp," and "A Prayer for Owen Meany."

Robbins is known for his 1976 novel, "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues."
