Two drivers hurt in Monday accident
Metro Police are investigating a three-vehicle accident that left two people injured, one of them critically, in a rush-hour crash Monday on Rampart Boulevard, north of Charleston Boulevard.
Donna Bell, 57, of Las Vegas was in critical condition at University Medical Center this morning after her southbound 1998 Jeep SUV was struck about 5 p.m. Monday as she tried to enter a shopping center driveway on Rampart.
Sean Delaney, 23, of Las Vegas was listed in serious condition at UMC. Delaney was driving a 2000 Dodge pickup northbound on Rampart in the right travel lane, police said.
A third driver, Cherry Dulin, 24, was struck when the Jeep spun into her 1999 Nissan, which was stopped in a private driveway.
Witnesses told police that the Dodge and a small white car were racing before the accident, police said.
No charges have been filed. If anyone has information about the white vehicle or the accident, contact Detective W. Johnson at 229-3538 or call Secret Witness at 385-5555.
Van hits man, 77, on Nellis Boulevard
A 77-year-old Las Vegas man was killed Monday when he was hit by a van as he attempted to cross Nellis Boulevard outside the crosswalk, Metro Police said.
The man was hit about 8 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Nellis, south of Desert Inn Road, detectives said.
The driver of a van slowed and honked at the man, who then stopped walking, police said. The driver then continued on, and the pedestrian jogged into the van's path and was hit, police said.
The pedestrian died at the scene, and the accident remains under investigation, police said. The man's name was not released this morning.
Victim identified as 19-year-old man
A 19-year-old Henderson man killed Sunday in a motorcycle accident on the Boulder Highway ramp of U.S. 95 has been identified as Stephen Barlow Jr.
Another motorcyclist -- 27-year-old Gregory Gunther -- was in serious condition this morning at University Medical Center.
Barlow was one of two motorcycle riders on the ramp heading onto U.S. 95 southbound when they crashed. Both riders were thrown from their motorcycles and landed on the highway, Nevada Highway Patrol officials said.
Both riders were taken to UMC. Barlow died at the hospital.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crashes, police said.
Approval obtained for new system
The Bureau of Reclamation and the city of Henderson have approved an environmental assessment and a "finding of no significant impact" for a new water system and reservoir.
The action gives a green light for the city to deliver water to Tuscany Hills and proposed Provenance developments. The right-of-way for the water system will go over about 8 acres of bureau land, much of which has been previously disturbed, the bureau said in a release.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority would supply the developments water through a 5,400-foot pipeline that crosses Lake Mead Drive at Golda Way.
The environmental assessment and no-impact finding are required before the work affecting federal land can go forward.
Free screening program scheduled
A free, confidential medical screening program for Nevada Test Site workers will be offered for three days in Las Vegas.
Screenings will occur from 12:30 to 8 p.m. March 7, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 8 and 9 at the Family Practice Medical Center at 6375 W. Charleston Blvd.
More than 6,000 former nuclear workers have been contacted, and more than 2,000 have been screened for possible exposure to work hazards in the Test Site's tunnels.
A worker or families of deceased workers may be eligible for benefits, and can receive a $150,000 lump sum payment and medical screening.
For more information about the program call Sandie Medina, union project manager, at (702) 636-8777 or toll-free at (888) 636-8161.
